pjd (and Sonic!) are both spot on as usual. There *is* a lot of the Tyros 4/5 in the Montage, *but* with vastly superior piano and synths on board. But Paul is right; if you're used to the high quality of S.Art and S.Art2 from CVP, you'll find the CK woodwinds undewhelming (mainly for the piano, EP, organs and synth pads). the CK is also ridiculously easy to use, yes.I replied on the other thread, too. Sorry. So far I feel most at home and comfortable with the CK61 and SX720 as I grew up with a CVP and they are kind of similar.
Assuming I'm mostly interesting in few sounds namely: Piano, Bass, Strings & Saxophone. Do I actually need the MODX or Montage considering the SX720 and CK61 has those voices as presets too?
Piano, bass, strings have similar sound quality on CK, mid-range arrangers and the synths. The Yamaha product lines share a lot of the same sonic DNA (waveforms/samples) although the products are "voiced" somewhat differently.
I might start a heated discussion, but saxophone is a different critter on all three of these product lines. You will likely be disappointed (in time) with sax on the CK.
Montage/MODX have decent sax and make use of Expanded Articulation where you the player will need to press a button or two to trigger an articulation while playing.
Arranger sax -- Super Articulation, in particular -- is very intuitive and reacts in a pleasing way to normal keyboard playing gestures. Sure, there are a few articulations which can be triggered, too. But, I find playing SArt sax far more satisfying than MODX. The instrument is responsive; I feel like a player, not a keyboard operator.
Well, that's my nickel's worth -- pj
P.S. You've got a CVP, so you'll know what I mean about SArt...
The Modx/Montage, they didn't think of making them as easy to just *play*; sax (especially S.ARt2 on CVP609/709/809/909, T3/T4/T5/G1/G2 and now sx920), it just *works*. It's as awkward to play Sax on the Montage without the auto phrasing and auto poly/mono, and likewise on the PA4x/Pa5x (which don't automatically join the partial samples together). The CK's saxes are about the same level as Tyros 1, which is going back over 20 years now.
